Teddy Bear Hamster, Angora Hamster?


Teddy Bear hamster is the long-haired variety of the Syrian Hamster, named so for their remarkable resemblance to toy teddy bears. They are also sometimes known as Angora hamster which refers an ancient breed of goats with exceptional long hair originally from the province of Angora, Turkey.

Some facts about Teddy Bear hamster
  • The fur on a Teddy Bear hamster is thick and fluffy, like a cotton wool, rather than the velvety feel of short-haired fur.

  • People who are not allergic to short-haired hamsters can be allergic to Teddy Bear hamster.

  • Male Teddy Bear hamsters usually have much longer fur than the female.

  • Teddy Bear hamster need grooming. You should comb their hair by using special hamster combs.

Are they? Hamsters are pretty small, less than your palm size.

Hi Gazard,

Jade_c's Muffin used to board with me when she was abroad :) Her Muffin (and Mint Tea) are both Pudding Dwarf Hamsters. A hybrid between Campbells and Winterwhites (the only two species capable of inter-breeding). They are un-related to Syrians even though they are able to grow up to two to three times the size of a Winterwhite :)

Thanks hesedetang, I never knew that Pudding dwarf hamster can grow up to that size.
