looxie: do not surprise that hamsters bite, that is the only way to protect themselves. They are still new to the environment and you. Give them some time to settle down and you will be very happy to see these cuties.
I just wish my parents would allow me to have a hamster. Dwarf hamsters are like 2 inches tall for goodness' sake! I read that they bite and are really hard to catch. But they are just adorable!!!! Still, my mom did mention my birthday in April....
Really nice blog, you clearly luuurve pets and those cute pics of the newborn hamsters - brilliant.
We're working on a new project at the moments which, if you love pets, I just know you'll find interesting.
It's All About Pets the social network site for pet lovers from The Blue Cross, Britain's Pet Charity since 1897.
Unlike other social networks, All About Pets is a credible pet care information directory. Lots of articles and leaflets about pets (and hamsters!)
All About Pets is FREE for everyone. Members can create profiles for themselves and their pets, upload photos or links to videos and showcase their pet’s talents. They can view and rate other people’s pets, photos and videos and get the latest in pet news.
Members can promote their own events or find out what is happening in their area and take part in polls and discussion forums. Let's get more hamster forums up there!
There are lot of new developments in the pipeline and we'll keep you posted as they happen.
The site is still in it's beta phase so of course we'd love to have your comments and feedback.
Well, one cute hamster a day somehow will take your troubles away. Spoil your pet hamster with this Habitrail cage.It comes with a wheel and both food bowl and a water bottle in shape of a mushroom. You can buy more tubing to this cage so that your pet hamster or mouse has even a more spacious home.Available at Wal-Mart and Pet Smart. -------------- Gillberk
In the Morning i heard a noise and it was a baby hamster, today they were just born,I have Siberian Hamsters (if theres no name of this then Syrian Hamsters)I here them chirping, lol.Do i need to seperate the dad to not eat the babies?Does it matter what kind of hamster i have to know if the dad going to eat them?I still didn't see the baies because they are in the house.
Aww so adorable! My hamster Ne-Yo is really sweet and all and lets you pet her (yes i know Ne-Yo is a boy name) but I cant seem to get her to trust me. Help??
Dear Anonymous, No i highly doubt that the daddy will eat the babies. Keep VERY careful watch on them just in case. But you do not have to worry about the mommy. I think your best bet is to let them be
Hey listen....I have a Syrian male hamster. Can I buy a female one so they can have babies? Because the woker in the shop said that Syrian hamsters can't be held togheter because they will fight....is that true? Please help me!!
my friend wants to get one too!! we tried every thing! She is even gonna pay for it!!! Her mom doesn't like hamsters because they pee!!!! Thats retarted. So were now all sad. and crying!!! So do you have any ideas on how to make her mom say yes??? Please this is important!!!!
well personally i wouldnt suggest breeding syrian hamster because they are a little hard to breed because if u intruduce one hamster to anothers it may fight the other trying to protect its territory and the other may fight for new territory so you will have to introduce them both to nuetral territory which may be hard for people who dont get much money also id suggest inexpirienced breeders to research alot about breeding b4 doing so as u may make the mother canabalise the babys...i dont think this made much sense so dont have a go at me 4 the silly comment XD XD
i am getting a hamster in two weeks and i had a couple of questions;; 1) What is the nicest type of hamster? 2) What are some distinct ways to tell the breeds oh hamsters apart? 3) What is the best kind of cage? 4) What is the best kind of food? 5) What is the best kind of bedding?
I have had a hamster before and loved him (he was a Syrian) but that was over 5 years ago, and i really want to make sure i have the best possible environment for the hamster i will be getting. Much thanks.
I cant answer your questions all I can do is offer advice.... 1) The nicest hamsters in my opinion are Syrian (commonly known as Teddybears) or Black Bear Hamsters. Both I have Found to be very sociable and tend to breed really cute babies..... 2) I find the best way to tell the different breeds apart are size and color but ask your local pet shop and they should be able to tell you 3) As for the best cage...the pet shops may tell you that you should only get a really expensive elaborate cage this is not nessacary.....however, your hamster will need lots of room to run play and excersize so i found through experience that a cage with a few extra tunnels and attachments work really well. 4)Food is a wide spread issue although I have found that my hamsters even the babies once old enough to eat really seem to enjoy the types of food that contain a good portion of oats, oatmeal, wheat germ, dried corn and sunflower seeds. 5)I like pine shavings for beeding personally becauseI find its easier to control the smell. But sometimes I throw in a few strips(small ones) of toilet tissue(unscented) because the my female reaaly seems to like it when sleeping. But again ask your local pet shop.
They're really cute. I had what the guys at the pet store called a "miniature hamster" and it was cute. When I got it, it was about 2 weeks old and it grew so much on me(a 33 year old male- can u believe this), I called him my kid :)
Very sadly, he died- accident(he got out of his cage and I stepped on him- it hurt). I was sad for a while and so after a few months I got a female Syrian(Teddy) for my son. This one's not as cute, but she's getting more comfortable. One thing that puzzles me though, is that she runs on the outside of her wheel- not the inside. Even when I put her on the inside and rotate it, so she can get used to it. Has anyone seen this behaviour? Also, she developed signs of wet-tail after I bought her(I was ignorant and thought she might be preggie), but it went away after 2 days, but I'm afraid it might come back. Is this possible? I've bought Dri-tail just in case.
Also- for anyone wanting to know about biting between the 2- my miniature(they look like the common field/bush-mouse) used to bite(not much), but it was mostly playful bites. I used to put my hands on his cage and mess with the pine shaves and he would charge at me and bite me, but playfully. I liked it. I think he gt used to me cause I got him as a baby.
The Syrian has never bitten me or even attempted to. She's more twitchy, but she doesn't bite at all.
Hi leon, first thing is that you have to make sure they are not same gender. Secondly is whether they are mature enough, which is at least 4-6 months old. If that true, the female hamster will go into season once every 4 days. However, please do more research before you breed hamster, be a responsible pet owner.
Hello friend, just wanted to tell you that your blog is very good, the images they use are nice and very well explained information, as Retirement homes in Costa Rica but your blog is different, thanks for all, greetings!
well last night before putting my kids to bed my 7yr old son complained about his hamster staying in her house and not wanting to come out so i rubbed on the outside of her cage which caused her to check it out and what do you know looks like we are the proud owners of about 6 teddy bear hamsters. we bought 2 hamsters from the pet shop and were told they were between 4-8weeks but im so angry that they allowed her to be with a mated so young we bought both brother and sister and put them in seperate cadges just under 2 weeks ago im also worried that the babies might be deformed as they parents are siblings not sure what to do have given her toilet paper for her nest and am making her hard boiled egg, chicken to feed her and cheese, are these all okay want the best for her and her babies after the shock and anger the excitement kicked in.
